Eric and Jessica Konopka, life-long Michiganders grew up in the 1980’s with memories of family, fun and fireworks. Jessica grew up in a small town north of Lansing where lighting off fireworks was a family tradition and the local village put together a large display over the lake. While Eric grew up in the Detroit area with memories of his dad and uncle, who worked for General Motors, provided an annual fireworks display for the neighborhood. When his dad and uncle both got laid off Eric began saving his lunch money to be able to still put together a show. When he had saved enough money he ordered fireworks from “Crazy Al’s Fireworks” in Tennessee that were shipped in battery boxes. As each year passed Eric’s passion for fireworks grew. With combined passion Eric and Jessica became members of pyrotechnic groups and gained certification for displaying fireworks professionally. What started out as a small backyard show eventually became an annual event, known to be better than the local municipality’s display. Together Eric and Jessica have expanded their small backyard show to professional shows done to benefit local fire fighters and police and for not-for-profit events involving friends and family.
When the state law changed in 2012, allowing the sale and display of fireworks in Michigan, Michigan Fireworks Company, LLC(MFC) was born. Eric and Jessica wanted to take their passion for fireworks and share it with their family, friends, and local community members even further. MFC is not just another fireworks store. Eric and Jessica pride themselves in knowing their product and providing a high quality product that can make any backyard show memorable. They can be quoted as saying “We will not sell anything that we would not put in our own show”.
Eric and Jessica have two small children that they enjoy sharing their passion with. Fireworks are a family event in the Konopka home, used to mark holidays, birthdays and other special events. While fireworks are fun to watch, safety is very important. Eric and Jessica make it a point to educate their buyers on the simple safety required to keep it fun and enjoyable for all. Their passion motivates them to make others aware of the joy that fireworks can bring to their families; creating and making lasting memories that will light up the sky.
